So far this year, a municipality in Washington state, Bellingham, has doubled
its DUI arrest rate. There has been an average of one DUI arrest
per day up 'til now in 2019. Of course, the question to ask is, why? The
reason is startling. The Bellingham police believe that operating under
the influence is one of the biggest threats to public safety, and so
they put a $20,000 grant into more resources to combat DUI. The results
are staggering.
It is clear that people believe they can get away with DUI, which is
actually a very serious crime and which the public seems to think can be
brushed of as a no-no with a wrist slap. Make no mistake, never operate
a car, or any vehicle, even a bike, if you are intoxicated by any
substance. The police are devoting more and more resources to clean up
this social problem, and, eventually, if you continue to drink and
