Will We Have Two Breathalyzer? One for Alcohol, One for Marijuana?
Something being talked about by us DUI lawyers recently has been the ever increasing possibility that a marijuana breathalyzer will be deployed by law enforcement. With the legalization and decriminalization of marijuana in many states, such as Washington and Colorado, and with the impending legalization of marijuana in places such as DC, Oregon and Alaska, it is only natural that law enforcement would like to find less invasive means of testing for marijuana DUI than the current tactics of blood and urine tests. A company in Canada called Cannabix Technologies will be releasing a new product in North America which will be able to determine if there has been any THC in an individual's lungs within the past two hours. Reportedly these devices are highly accurate and will be of benefit to prosecutors who previously had to rely on tests which involved potential court orders, delaying the test and potentially clearing the compound from an individual's system before the test can be administered. Of course, our advice is always and resoundingly to NEVER drive under the influence of any substance: legal, illegal, prescribed or otherwise.
