Will We Follow Other Countries And Lower Our BAC From .08 To .05?
A bill has been introduced in New Jersey to lower that state's legal BAC limit from .08 to .05. A recent study by the National Academies of Sciences, Engineering, and Medicine has shown that there are significant reductions in driving abilities at lower levels of BAC.
What is also interesting is that several other countries, such as Austria, Denmark, and Japan have lowered their legal BAC to .05 and the results have been impressive. In the United States, commercial vehicle drivers are already held to this higher standard of having a legal BAC limit of .05.
What are your thoughts? Are our laws tough enough? Or, do we need stronger limits on drunk driving?
