Why Was I Pulled Over?
This question comes up in almost every interview I have with a DUI client - and it is usually the first.
The police have been trained to look for specific actions or signals to determine which vehicles may be being operated by an intoxicated driver. Among the most looked for are:
- Problems with staying in your lane (weaving, swerving, turning wide, drifting, almost striking another car or guardrail).
- Speed and braking issues (stopping too far short, stopping suddenly, accelerating or decelerating for no visible reason, varying your speed and driving 10 MPH or more under the speed limit).
- Problems with paying attention to the rules of the road (driving in the wrong lane, ignoring traffic signals and signs, failing to signal, failing to turn on your headlights at night).
- Problems with your judgement (tailgating, unsafe lane changes, illegal turning).
If you have been charged with DUI, the officer almost certainly had a reason for pulling you over. We can discover that together when we review your police report and we can talk about ways to fight for your license and your freedom. If you have been arrested or charged with DUI and you live in Essex, Burlington, South Burlington, Winooski, Colchester, Williston or anywhere in the State of Vermont, call the Law Office of C Jordan Handy to discuss your case.
