When People Never Learn
Nobody should ever get a DUI. Nobody should ever drive while under the influence of any substance. Some people never learn this lesson and they pay for it with ever increasing penalties. A man in Alabama was recently charged with his 24th DUI offense! That is not a typo - TWENTY-FOUR DUI convictions/arrests. What does this mean for an individual? It means that if you commit the crime of driving under the influence once, and you hurt no-one and damage no property, the courts and society at large are generally able to forgive you, but you must never do it again. Punishments increase. In Vermont, multiple convictions of DUI can result in a lifetime loss of your license. In many states you can become a convicted felon and be sentenced to lengthy prison terms after multiple DUI convictions. Remember, never drive under the influence of any substance.
