Subjectivity Arises In Oregon To Determine Intoxication
With marijuana becoming more and more prevalent as a legal substance in many states, law enforcement is falling over themselves trying to determine how marijuana impairs driving and how much does it take to do so. Since there is currently no accepted standards as there are with alcohol, Oregon has taken a controversial step in determining impairment. Currently, in Oregon, if a drive passes a breathalyzer test the state then calls in "Drug Recognition Experts" to determine if the individual is indeed operating under the influence. Clearly this presents many problems as someone's opinion is a very unreliable test to base someone's freedoms on. Hopefully as we move forward objective methods will be developed to determine one's level of intoxication from substances such as marijuana.
