Stricter DUI Laws Now In Place Nationwide
Given that DUI arrests are still plentiful, implying that people are
still not realizing how serious of a crime it is, many states have
enacted stiffer DUI laws which took effect at the beginning of the year.
Utah is leading the way by lowering its BAC level from .08 to a new .05,
which is basically one drink an hour. It is worth noting that they were the first to also lower their limit from 1.0 to .08 in 1983.
Pennsylvania has now added that a third DUI conviction with a BAC of
twice the legal limit (.16) while get you a felony conviction. Though
Pennsylvania is one of the last states to do this, perhaps we can all
take a cue from Canada. In Canada, the FIRST DUI offense is consider
what we call a felony. If you live in Burlington, Essex, Colchester,
Winooski, Williston, Shelburne or anywhere in the State of Vermont, and
have been arrested or charged with DUI or any crime, call Handy Law for
