Should Cannabis Be Put In The Same Class As Heroin?
There is a national debate going on about cannabis. We know that there
are several states where either possessing, purchasing, and/or growing
marijuana is legal. But what about those states where it is still
illegal? Of course, at the federal level, it is illegal, too.
In many states where marijuana is still illegal, defendants are arguing
that the level of crimes (felony) and the sentences being handed down
for anything related to marijuana is far too harsh. The reason being is
that in many states, marijuana is considered an illicit substance, often
put in the same class as heroin.
Given that many states no longer criminalize marijuana, and Canada has
completely decriminalized it, defendants argue that any crime connected
to marijuana should be a misdemeanor or civil offense at worse. It will
be interesting to see how legislatures deal with cannabis moving
forward. If you live in Burlington, Essex, Colchester, Winooski,
Williston, Shelburne or anywhere in the state of Vermont, and have been
arrested or charged with DUI or any crime, call Handy Law for aggressive
