California DUI Arrest for Falling Asleep At The Wheel! (Not What You May Think)
Technology continues to improve and one of the much-touted devices is the
self-driving car. Though we don't see many completely self-driving
cars, Teslas do have an Autopilot mode.
One day, a couple of weeks ago, a California Highway Patrol officer was
passing a car on Highway 101 near Redwood City. Everything seemed normal
except for that one thing which made the officer do a double take. He
saw that the man behind the wheel of this Tesla was completely passed
out, reclining in the driver's seat and clearly not operating the
vehicle. He was in a Tesla which was on autopilot mode.
To slow the car down, officers stayed in front of the car and continued to decelerate
, causing the Tesla to do the same. Eventuall,y the car
stopped and the driver was awoken. It turns out he failed multiple field
sobriety tests and was arrested for DUI.
Even if you aren't technically driving you must still be in control of
the vehicle - and sober! If you live in Burlington, Essex, Colchester,
Winooski, Williston, Shelburne or anywhere in the State of Vermont, and
have been arrested or charged with DUI or any crime, call Handy Law for
