What Kinds of Prescription Drugs Can Impair My Driving?

This is a serious question and one that anyone who takes prescription medications should be concerned with. Believe it or not, it is not just Valium or other heavy sedatives that can impair your driving and cause you to get a DUI.

Among the types of drugs to be aware of are sedatives, drugs that sedate us. Major types of these drugs are pain medications, tranquilizers, prescription sleeping pills, antidepressants, muscle relaxants and antihistamines, and others. All of these drugs can make us drowsy, distracted or listless behind the wheel.

Stimulants can also impair our ability to drive by causing us to be more aggressive and risk-taking on the road. Most important among these are drugs used to treat ADD and ADHD, as well as diet pills.

If you are taking any prescription drugs, make sure you understand how they affect you and read about the side effects that can be experienced. If you live in Burlington, Essex, Colchester, Winooski, Williston, Shelburne or anywhere in the State of Vermont, and have been arrested or charged with DUI or any crime, call Handy Law for aggressive and experienced legal defense.
