Drugged Driving Now More Common Than Drunk Driving

Many people assume that it is only alcohol or some wild party narcotic that can get them in trouble if they drive after using it. However, as the recent arrest of Tiger Woods has shown, even a reaction to prescription drugs can have you facing the same charges as someone who was driving over twice the legal blood alcohol content limit.

DUI is just that - Driving Under the Influence. The law does not make any distinction whether it be operating a vehicle after ten martinis or a couple of prescription pain killers. If you are driving impaired, you are driving impaired and no matter the substance, driving impaired has the same risks to yours and the lives of others.

A recent report from the Governor’s Highway Safety Association found that drugs were present in 43% of all traffic fatalities. That is a 25% increase from the same statistic in 2012.
