Is Uber a Remedy for DUI?

Given the the best and most effective way to avoid driving under the influence is to, quite simply, not drive, some research has been done to determine of rider-sharing apps like Lyft and Uber have had any significant impact on DUI occurrences. In California, which is the home state of Uber, it did initally appear that in communities where Uber is available, DUI crashes had dropped significantly. In face, it was claimed, on average, 60 less incidents per year were reported in areas that offer the Uber service. Those numbers were released by Uber itself in conjunction with MADD. An independent study found, however, that there was actually no significant reduction in fatalities in communities where Uber was offered as compared with those where Uber was not available. This goes to show that DUI is an attitude more than an inconvenience. Those that commit DUI believe they will never be caught, else they would not drive under the influence. Remember, never operate a vehicle if you are under the influence of any substance.
