Everyone should be aware by now that it is not only alcohol that can cause you to be charged with a DUI. Everything from prescription drugs to cannabis can land you in jail for a night to be followed up by costly and perhaps lengthy court proceedings.
A recent "Drug DUI" in California saw an individual receive a sentence of 10 years for accidentally killing a 64-year-old woman who was walking to her job at Disney. One might think that since there are no "measurable standards" in place for drugs other than alcohol for determining intoxication, that it may be difficult to truly determine if an individual was actually under the influence or not.
The truth of the matter is, is that if someone is severely injured or killed by you in an accident involving any substance, you will most likely be sentenced to serious time upon conviction. Our society is rightly becoming less and less tolerant of those who drive under the influence of any substance.
